Smart Card Readers

Tensor's range of high speed smart card readers are used to operate your time and attendance and access control systems.

Our hardware uses well-proven and reliable RF (Radio Frequency) reading technology. This gives a consistent read range and is unaffected by most external conditions.

Operated by contact less smart cards or key fobs that can be read in under ¼ second, our smart card readers are at the forefront of contact less scanning technology.

T1481 Card Reader

The T1481 range of card readers have a slim line design, with dimensions identical to that of a standard light switch.

It can be placed behind doors or within a brick wall, making them ideal for low profile applications.

T1081 Card Reader

The T1081 is a highly durable smart card scanner with LED status indicator lights.

Its wall mounting and neutral black case ensures that it blends in seamlessly with most factory and office environments.

It is ideal for use anywhere where there is a requirement for tough and durable control of doors and releases.

Smart Cards

We have a selection of smart cards that can operate your Tensor System.

Our most popular smart card is the T1305. It is approximately the same size as a standard credit card, and is thin and flexible enough to be carried in your wallet.

Renowned for being robust, a Tensor smart card can be read in under ¼ second even if it is covered in oil and grease.

Key Fobs

We have a selection of key fobs that can operate your Tensor System.

Fobs are about the same size as a standard key fob, and have their own printed external number for cross-referencing.

Since the tags are smaller, they have a correspondingly smaller read range than a smart card, but can still be scanned in under ¼ second.

From a simple network consisting of a single clocking in machine, your time and attendance or access control network can be easily expanded to incorporate additional time clocks and other network devices such as smart card readers and door releases.

How Smart Card Readers Work

Each card reader transmits a 125 KHz frequency field (the electromagnetic field), which is picked up by an aerial in your smart card or key fob. The smart card reader has two read bands within this field; an inner and outer band, and these are controlled and rapidly oscillated by the card reader's on-board microprocessor.

The microchip within the smart card or key fob is a passive device which holds a unique factory encoded ID number that cannot be duplicated, making it very secure indeed. As a card or fob enters the smart card reader's electromagnetic field, it is automatically activated by the field's energy.
