All Tensor key fobs and smart cards use the same well-proven and reliable RF (Radio Frequency) reading technology. This gives a consistent read range which is unaffected by most external conditions.
Our most popular key fob is the T1313, which is about the same size as a regular key fob, and comes complete with a key ring slot.
T1313 Key Fob
T1313 key fobs have a grey plastic shell made from implant quality glass, similar to those used in the identification of pets.
They have a key ring slot allowing them to easily be attached to your set of keys.
A Tensor key fob has a smaller aerial than that of a smart card, comprising of a copper coil and with a soft iron ferrite core.
Since the tags are smaller, they have a correspondingly smaller read range than a smart card.
We have a selection of smart cards that can operate your Tensor System.
Our most popular smart card is the T1305. It is approximately the same size as a standard credit card, and is thin and flexible enough to be carried in your wallet.
Renowned for being robust, a Tensor smart card can be read in under ¼ second even if it is covered in oil and grease.
Tensor key fobs have no on-board battery that can fail. Theoretically, this means that each fob has an infinite life, and can be read an infinite number of times.
How Key Fobs Work
Each key fob reader transmits a 125 KHz frequency field (the electromagnetic field), which is picked up by an aerial in the key fob. The reader has two read bands within this field; an inner and outer band, and these are controlled and rapidly oscillated by the readers on-board microprocessor.
The key fob microchip is a passive device which holds a unique factory encoded ID number that cannot be duplicated, making it very secure indeed. As a key fob enters the reader's electromagnetic field, it is automatically activated by the field's energy.
Key Fob Integrity
With up to 34 billion different combinations of ID number, there is no chance of duplication. In addition, each ID number has built-in security and integrity checks ensuring that it cannot be misread.
A cross-reference list correlating the external printed fob number and the programmed ID number is also provided, for easy system administration.
