Timber firm Calders and Grandidge uses Time and Attendance Fri 9th July 2010

Calders & GrandidgeCalders & Grandidge is one of the oldest established and respected names in the United Kingdom pressure treated timber sector with its own 46 acre site in Boston , Lincolnshire , and employs a workforce of more than 60 personnel. The company is the main supplier of wooden telegraph poles in the UK and their strategically placed depots are equipped to process, preserve and stock the large number of poles needed to serve UK and overseas markets. The firm’s stock of core products include poles, fencing, gates, railway sleepers and crossing timbers, as well as having its own machining capabilities.

Calders & Grandidge decided in 2000 to have installed at their main Boston site Tensor’s WinTAEnterprise, the flagship product of our proven range of Windows™ based time and attendance products. WinTA Enterprise.NET is the multi-user, networked, multi site combined Time and Attendance, Access Control, Fire Roll Call and security system intended for larger companies. Rob Lonsdale, the Production Manager (Poles & Track) at Calders who has taken over project management for the Tensor equipment, received training for the system. He explained that there were at least two or three quotes for the job, and Tensor’s was the best. The reason was: “Cost, ease of use, flexibility and potential for expansion.”

He commented to the Tensor reporter that the system was easy to set up and use, adding: “It was very user-friendly. There was user and administration training for me and other users. It was very clear and useful.”

Initially one clocking point was set up, now three have been installed. This process is made simple by WinTA Enterprise being modular – it can store up to 2000 employees on a single Time & Attendance clock, to which extra scanners may be attached for Access Control, Job Booking, and Job Costing.

Rob pointed out that any problems since the installation were logged with our help desk, and added: “Any problems that have arisen have been dealt with swiftly.” When asked to rate our help desk department on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest), he replied: “Five-plus. The help desk is fantastic, I’ve never had any issues with it. Nine times out of ten it’s one phone call, and it’s job done. Otherwise it’s a case of a remote log-in and it’s sorted out.”

He said he would recommend Tensor to other companies, adding: “One of the companies from our parent group was shown the system, we told them how good it was, and they were very impressed.” Mr Lonsdale summed up Tensor’s service with: “An excellent system with very few problems over the years we’ve been using it. It’s refreshing these days to be so confident that your supplier’s back up service does what it’s supposed to do.”
